In search of the Great Pumpkin

October 19th, 2009 · 2 Comments

We finally took the twins to the pumpkin patch. Last year we never made it and the year before that…well I doubt we could have wheeled them in the Giraffe to the pumpkins. Lane Farms has a petting zoo, tractor rides and a corn maze in addition to their pumpkin patch. It is a cute local family owned organic farm. Hence the reason you pay $15 a pumpkin vs $5 at Trader Joe’s. Support local farmers!

Loen was very excited about the horse

The pot belly pig was captivating

Did I mention the donkey?

Derby preferred the turkeys. Unfortunately our camera was lagging so you cant see where he is leaning in taunting the turkey to come nip at his fingers.

Come back little niblets

There are so many to choose from (I like how they gravitate to the biggest and most expensive pumpkins)

This is me trying to get a shot with my kids. This is them not totally cooperating. Story of my life

Off to find our pumpkins

Loen had to touch every one

She was a little bothered by the dirt on her hands

She thought she wanted that one but it was too heavy

This one was just right

This is a child who refuses to eat all fresh fruit and veggies offered to him

But would eat handfuls of filthy straw

Our final picks

We just have to carve them now. Any suggestions?

One of the blogs I watch (yours isn’t the only one I’m hooked on) had some neat ideas for painted pumpkins. I think you might be able to see them at Parents magazine. I saw them on howaboutorange.blogspot.com.

Great pictures, Havie! As far as carving pumpkins in the warm climate we live in . . . the faces sink in and they draw ants within a day . . . I’d go with the painting idea!
