Derbyman

I hate to focus on just one kid but Derby has had a PHENOMENAL couple of weeks. As his PT said “It is like a fog has been lifted”.

The morning that Mima T went back to Michigan Derby decided he would sit on his own (he would stay if you sat him up he just couldn’t do by himself). Tadd was playing with the babies for a little bit before he got ready for work and watched as Derby struggled for 15 seconds then finally figured out how to get into a sitting position by himself. They have been working on the movements to push into sitting at therapy but he would resist. I think he has decided the time has come to start working. It is still weird for me to walk into their room and see Derby sitting up in his crib. So that was one of the first things. I was so proud of my little guy.

Last Monday I brought him into the guest room so my mom could take him and I could go back to bed for a little bit. Derby was sitting on the bed and a toy went out of his reach. He got on his belly then army crawled to the cup. We couldn’t believe it. I said “Did he just crawl?!” so we tried it again to see if he would do it and sure enough a little army crawl to the cup. Then he was tired of our antics and refused to do it again.

He is eating solid foods like a champ. He loves Earths Best crunchin graham sticks. I think he would eat the whole box if you let him. Like Loen he prefers the expensive organic baby food versus mom’s homemade organic food. After dealing with the sticker shock of $1.50 for a jar of organic chicken and pasta soup I decided to make my own for much less. I boiled the chicken, made organic whole wheat pasta and sauteed some tomatoes in olive oil, then everything into the food processor to make it easier to eat. Two bites. That is all they would eat, 2 measly little bites of my hard work. I ate it and it tasted good unlike how I thought the jarred baby food smelled. When it comes down to it were okay spending the extra money just to get Derby to eat. I will admit I’m a little peeved they wont eat my food……

Mmmm, what is this most delicious puree? Must be store bought!

He looks like he is being tortured but really he is just complaining. He is fine once they put him down. You cant complain about the amazing results they’re getting.

So that is the amazing advances in Derby land. Eating, crawling, sitting up, annoyed he can’t have the laptop..
