Thanksgiving in Arizona

December 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

All is quiet right now. Babies are asleep, Tadd is watching a movie and I am FINALLY posting.

We went to Arizona for Thanksgiving. We got to meet Kyle and Christina’s new baby, Madeline. I love her hair.

Loen wasn’t sure what to think of a baby smaller than herself, that was a first.

Deb did most of the cooking for Thanksgiving. It was a treat to essentially just be a slug and hang out!

Loen was very excited about Petey. She made it her mission while we were there to annoy the crap out of that cat. She went so far as to crawl into his kitty hideaway and had catnip all over her hands and arms. I had to quickly google to see if catnip was dangerous for babies. You could tell Petey was counting off the days until we left. Derby on the other hand paid no attention to the cat but as is Derby’s hand in life we found he was allergic.

Poor little allergic Derby

Petey: Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

Petey like Loen best when she was asleep

We couldn’t help but buy Petey a parka from Target. Useless in Arizona, but he looks so fab in it

His real name should be Catzilla (Deb and Petey)

To address the cat allergy we decided to get Derby a jumparoo so he could spend time off of the floor. We had put a clean quilt down for him to play on but he still looked red eyed and grouchy. We had been told by the therapist and our child specialist that using any kind of jumper or exersaucer could delay Derby even more but we adopted the “Vegas Attitude”. What happened in Arizona would stay there, so no jumparoo would be coming home with us. Lord, Derby was SO excited about that thing. He would jump like a maniac, and a couple of times he jumped himself to sleep. He would be a little jumping bean then start to slow down. You would see his head start to nod down but it was like he knew he had a limited amount of time with his new favorite toy so he would snap his head up and start jumping frantically again. Next time you looked at him he was fast asleep. When we went to physical therapy after coming home Jane mentioned his left leg seemed tight and his toes were pointed. Kind of how he would be if he was trying to jump. I slyly asked if a jumper could do that to which she replied “That certainly wouldn’t have helped matters”. Ahem…no jumper at our house…..la la la.

He was jumping so fast he was a blur

I took the kids down to see their Great Aunt Tracie in Casa Grande (about 1 1/2 hours away). While I love my new iPhone the directions it gave me were old, so I spent 10-15 minutes driving around looking for an outlet mall. I finally pulled over next to restaurant and asked Tracie to meet me because I was going to have a melt down. Evidently I had directions to the old outlet mall that was no longer there, which would explain why I couldn’t find it.

Cousin Kelsey has grown up and matured so much from July. She was a wonderful help with the babies.

That about it for our trip to Arizona, other than the fact it hovered in the 70-80 degree range. There are times when I wish we had snow during the holidays then I watch news coverage about people being stuck in a blizzard and I shut my mouth.

I would definitely trade you the 70-80 degree weather for the cold and snow of Iowa and Illinois! You guys make such adorable babies, so cute =).
