My babies are stuck in the NICU
It just makes my heart so sad
Maybe when they get out
My soul won’t hurt so bad
It started when the water broke
Then there was a twelve day wait
The days were long and the nights were dark
While we awaited their final fate
Loen came out quiet
Then Derby with a yell
Doctors were shouting orders
Doing their best to make them well
The first days were really hard
The upward climb was slow
Everyone warned us of the ride
And told us to be ready to go
Fourteen days later
The first downhill run
A surgery was required
That night was not much fun
The following weeks were up and down
In and out of the hospital we went
Visiting our children every night
While hoping they would get off the vent
The months drag on
Soon it is three
The babies are doing great
The future beginning to look free

There once were some twins from Santa Barb’ray
Who tried to do things the hard way
Their parents hung in
Those babies begin
To look more like big kiddos each and ev’ry day.
