Now that the twins have been deemed “feeder growers” (meaning some of their biggest issues stem from learning how to eat and putting on some weight) we were moved from our spot in the front. On one hand I am glad because they need that area for sicker babies, but on the other hand I am sad to leave our little pod. Our original group of 4 babies has moved around, only Eli is still in the front
So we have gone to the back, moved again to a new spot in the front and then last night we were put back into one of the back pods when they got an admission. At least the twins are getting a change of scenery.
Derby has been having all sorts of first lately. On Monday he got off of CPAP and back on nasal cannula. With that he got to wear his first onesie and tried his first bottle. Physical Therapy came and evaluated them on Wednesday and said Loen is more coordinated and Derby is a little lazy. Other than that the twins looked good. Another 24 weeker was admitted the other day and I thought “Oh, we weren’t that small”, but it turns out we were. It is amazing how quickly you forget about things. I just focus on the present and try to move ahead.
Derby looks like we caught him doing something he wasn’t supposed to. Notice his frog WubbaNub (His onesie says “Respect the Kong” courtesy of the Maudsley’s)

Loen in her onesie from the Maudsley’s. It says “See the forest for the trees” My kids are already very eco-friendly

Derby weighs 4.14 Loen is 4.9. Loen is now nippling every other feed. She doesn’t finish the bottle every time but she tries. Derby has taken a whole bottle a couple of times this week.
The surgeon said they will probably reattach Derby’s intestines at the end of January. I want it over with, I get worried thinking about reintubating him. Then he has to go back on TPN. It definitely will be a set back for him but hopefully it is just a little bump on the road home.
Eye exams were yesterday morning. Derby’s are still the same. Dr. Silverberg said he doesn’t need laser surgery…yet. Oh I hate that “yet”. How about he might need it or he might not??? Loen’s eyes are looking better and he said they have responded faster to the laser surgery then he thought. She had some problems with bleeding in the retina after the surgery but it appears to be resolving. They hate to have their eyes examined. The nurse said when Dr. Silverberg came in and set down his briefcase Derby had a brady. It was like he heard him and knew what was coming, my poor little guy.
I gave Loen her “first” bath. I don’t know quite how much she liked it. But she did like the warming lights. We might have to get some of those for home
Prebath. All warm and snuggly in her swaddler

MOM! I’m shy..

After all that Loen wore her first pair of pants (Fauxma keeps them so stylish!)

Derby

Daddy got to hold them both for the first time on Tuesday

Whew! I was…uh…starting to get worried.
Yay! Twins! Yay! Cribs! The outfits are very cute, too.
Four pounds. They (and you two) have come a long way. Congratulations!
Now what does your milk freezer look like NOW, I wonder?

The onesies look great! I can’t believe they’re still big on Loen and Derby! Wow, for us those days were so long ago (2 years), but your pictures bring it all back! I’m glad to see your babes are doing so well! I wish you luck and strength during this “learning to eat” nippling phase. This was the most stressful for me, because I could have a lot more involvement, but there were still so many struggles out of my control. Wearing clothes is a fun part, though! And baths! Keep chugging along – I’m thinking of you.
