The ol’man turns 32 tomorrow.
The twins are getting a little long in the tooth also. Loen and Derby are now in cribs. The giraffe is just too advanced for them now that they are over 4 pounds each and can keep the body temp up.
Loen’s new crib (I never planned on all the pink, it just seems to turn out that way)

Derby in a big crib

I helped give Derby a bath tonight. While we didn’t dunk him in the tub of water due to his stomas we did scrub him down nicely. Which was a good thing because when we unwrapped him his ostomy bag had a leak and there was poop everywhere. The nurse transferred him from the crib to a scale with warming lights to do the bath. In that little trip he managed to get poop on his forehead and pee on the nurse. Once he was all clean with a new ostomy bag placed he was ready to try and breastfeed. He was so awake from all the activities. It took him awhile to get latched on. At the time being baby cannot live on the boob alone, they will have to supplement down his feeding tube till he gets better at the whole nursing thing. He is trying though, the nurse tonight was singing his praises.
Wet and chubby, such a combo

Loen got a tub bath for the first time the other night. We were unable to see it though. The nurse thought she had already gotten her “first tub bath” and cleaned her up without thinking about it. The next day when Tadd was talking to her she found out that we had never given her bath and that was the first time in a little tub. Thats okay though, we are going to pretend that was the “practice” tubby and the next one will be our official first bath. Tadd bottle fed Loen again. He is becoming a pro with the bottle feeding. Of the 4 bottles that Loen has gotten she has managed to finish 3 of them. Unfortunately this last time she spit up a 1/4 of it. Nonetheless a stellar performance for a micropreemie.

I love it when a nurse comes back after not having them for a week and their comments. Usually it is something along the lines of “They are SO big now”. Many are saying the twins have been making real progress and doing well. Rather than talking about NEC or oscillating ventilators the discussions focus on Loen having a diaper rash or Derby crying because his binker fell out of his mouth. Don’t get me wrong our days are also peppered with “His heart rate dropped into the 50′s” and”Were watching Loen becuase her labs show signs of an infection”.
Speaking of birthdays one of the twins favorite nurses Kaite had her birthday on Tuesday. We were planning an elaborate scenario where they would pop out of a cake suspended on wires “Cirque du Soleil” style, but the mommy was too tired so a card will have to do…..

For some reason I read that YOU were planning to pop out of the cake and I was thinking, “God, this nurse must be excellent.”
