Loen’s labs are looking better today, in fact they are normal. Dr. Barkley said her abdominal x-ray also looked normal, so it probably wasn’t NEC just an infection. She will continue to get antibiotics and they started her back on breast milk today. My poor little girl, she just wasn’t herself last night or today. She has been very quiet and riding the vent, not at all the little wiggle worm she usually is. I was feeling so bad for her. The nurse tried to make me feel better by likening it to having the flu. She said “when you feel like crap all you want to do is lie in bed, right?”. Whenever Tadd or I talk to her she will open her eyes but I guess she has been too tired to right now. Though when they started her on a small amount of feeds again she opened her eyes and wiggled a little. Nothing like a little food to perk her up. As the doctor is writing orders he says nonchalantly he will be starting antibiotics on Derby. When asked why he said Derby’s labs were showing increased white blood cells, not as bad as Loen’s but there was a left shift. Now Derby has an infection. The nurse drew more blood for cultures and started his antibiotics. I sat there going back in my mind if I had remembered to wash my hands every time I go between incubators. Tadd and I are pretty vigilant about it but it still scares me that maybe we forgot and inadvertently gave Derby Loen’s infection. ugghhhhh
Other than all that the kiddos look beautiful. Loen is my delicate little girl and Derby is my chunk-a-monk. The nurses said I am going to give him a complex by the time he is 3 months old because I call him my fat man. I love all the chub on him, he’s my big boy.

If calling them funny names was going to give kids a complex by 3 months, Caitlin was doomed before she was ever born. We used to call her “Squidly” while in utero and all kinds of fun things when she was out including “Chunkalunka”.
And if yer mom & dad can’t tease ya…. : )

i forgot to comment on the “tommy boy ” reference from a couple of posts ago. HILARIOUS. Serious chunk a monk.
Yeah for Target 2.5 gallon bags, by the way. Do you need more cause we’re heading to Ventuky next weekend to say bye to kim
Glad Loen is starting up on mommy’s milk again…cause you guys are going to have to buy another freezer soon!

That’s no fun! I hope they both start feeling better soon.
I want to hold them each in the crook of an arm and read them Chicken Soup with Rice.
Sipping once
sipping twice
sipping chicken soup
with rice.
