Please excuse our short absence last week. We had a questionable week, which I think Hava will write about later, and then our internet did not work at our new place after Cox came out on Friday. They are going to be stopping by again today to get it going, so we should be back.
Now for a quick update.
Loen had to go on a high frequency oscillating ventilator on Thursday because the CO2 was not being exchanged out of her blood adequately. This new ventilator puts light pressure on her lungs to keep them open and then basically shakes her lungs to make the gas exchange. I’ve seen it set at anywhere from 720 to 900 vibrations per minute. She seems to have stabilized at this point and there is a chance that she will be transferred back to the original vent today. They also pulled her feedings when all of this was going on. I’m not sure if she is back on them yet or not.
Derby has basically just been stable during the entire time Loen was going through her drama. I was able to touch him for I think about 10 minutes last night. Touching him at this point is basically just cupping the top of his head in one hand. I held his hand for almost then entire time with my other hand (actually just a finger – their hands still don’t even come close to going around one of our fingers). This was WAY longer than I’ve been able to touch him since they were born, which was 26 days ago at this point. It was a nice way to end the weekend.
I am absolutely amazed at how much they have grown. They don’t even look that small to me anymore, just a little bit smaller than the average baby, even though they are no where near the size. I keep thinking back to how tiny they were when they were born, and they look huge compared to what I remember.

The ups and downs must be tough to travel through and then to move again on top of that the two of you must be past exhausted.
Hope Loen and Derby both have uneventful weeks.
We keep all of you in our prayers and send lots of positive thoughts your way.

Thanks for the good update, Tadd. We needed that. My grown children and I check “tadpoles” a lot — plus, my grandchildren. Know it’s still very scary but we’re happy to hear the babies are growing fast. We’ll keep praying and sending positive thoughts to them, Hava, and you. It’s great when we get to hear from you too — your thoughts and input. Thank you. Love you All dearly, Grandma
