I had started to write a post about how our babies are 2 weeks old today, but when we went in at 5:30 this evening we could tell something was up. Derby had a perforated bowel due to necrotizing enterocolitis and needed surgery. It all happened so quickly. He has come out of surgery but we wont know the final results for another 2 weeks. He is stable at this time. We may not be posting for awhile while we deal with all of this.
Please keep the babies in your prayers.

Dear Tadd and Hava, As we have known from the start, Derby is a fighter. He’s saying “Bowel perf-No biggie. I’ve got it licked. Now where is my dinner? Mom-start up the pump!” I’m sending lots of positive thoughts your way and hope you are all able to stay strong. If you feel like you need to call and unload, you’ve got an open ear. As far as this blog goes, you have both done a great job staying positive. If you need to just let go and let us know that life isn’t fair and it is hard and no one understands…please let it rip. We are all here for you and will support you. Lots of love from DC.

Hava and Tadd, sorry to hear about the bowel problem with Derby. why will it take 2 weeks to determine if surgery was successful? will it take that long for the bowel to heal? your children have still beat the odds so far and seems very strong. I continue to pray for your children to heal and thrive and for you two to have strength and wisdom and blessings from above.

Dear Tadd, Hava and babes,
I was off work on Thursday and for some reason I could not bring up your site at my house. My daughter-in-law called me, (she reads your blog everyday) she told me that Derby had to have surgery. I felt so upset and she reminded me of our Alex. It was a constant up and down for 33 days. People would say take it one day at a time. They just don’t understand you take it an hour at a time. The NICU is such a complex and emotional roller coaster. Sometimes the ride is smooth and other times it is wicked. You both have truly been strong through this whole ordeal. I pray that God will continue holding both of you up. I have to believe that although there will be some setbacks, the final outcome will be awesome. (A true miracle). Ask God and He will listen…Love, Carol

Words seem to fail when there’s bad news. The good news is they caught it. I hope your little man is coming through it well. Love you guys so much.

A mantra of mommyhood is “This too shall pass”. Years from now, this will be a distant memory. It’s all so hard since you haven’t even been able to hold them yet. I’m keeping you in my prayers.
Take Care,
Holly
