Tadd and I need to be banned from baby stores. We don’t even have the twins in our hot little hands yet and they are already amassing stuff (they get that from their dad).
Yesterday we went to the fabric store to look at some samples. My mother is making the baby’s crib bedding and we wanted to be sure of the color scheme. Looking at fabric online is different than seeing it in person. Sure you can usually find it for half off but you cant feel it or compare it to other fabrics. So we are browsing through when Tadd sees the Sock Monkey line. We now have the fabric to make blankets for Derby and Loen.
Derby’s blanket (Pictures on the front, sock monkey brown on the back)

Loen’s blanket (Monkeys on front, dots on back)

I decided to hold off making the blankets till I’m on maternity leave as it will give me something to do.
Today we drove down south to go to Old Navy and Ikea with Tadd’s dad, Jim. Jim could not pronounce Ikea and kept calling it “Al-Qaeda”. Anyways Old Navy in Thousand Oaks has a maternity section and they were having a sale. I seem to be growing out of clothes quickly and needed to replenish my pant supply. Wouldn’t you know it they were having a baby sale too. I made myself leave the baby section or else I would have ended up with an armload of stuff. As it was Derby got a beanie (Tadd is going to fashion him after himself), a pair of robot PJ’s and Loen got a pink romper with zebras on it. We get to the car and Jim hands me a sack. He seems to have been bitten by the radioactive baby buying bug and the twins got their first zip-up hoodies. (As I am typing this, I’m wearing a pair of Old Navy sweat capris that I bought. They are sooo comfy and Tadd has forbidden me to wear them outside. Personally I don’t think they look that bad and they were on sale.)

Next we were off to Ikea! We went to prepare for our big move at the end of this month. We needed some new step stools, drawer liners, trash cans etc. SOMEHOW the twins are now proud owners of a tent (courtesy of Grandpa Jim)
and 2 sheepskin rugs.

Our last stop was the Serafina warehouse sale. Serafina is a high end baby store in Montecito that carries children’s clothing by Escada, Armani, Miniman, and Juicy Couture. Needless to say we wont be shopping in that store, but there was an ad in the paper saying their warehouse in Carpinteria was having a 50-70% off sale. We decided to stop on the off chance we would find something worthwhile. Well, it was still expensive. There was a tiny PLAIN pink Christian Lacroix tshirt for $75, for a 6 MONTH OLD! As I was holding it in my hand I had an Ab-Fab moment where I could see Loen on the playground saying “But it’s Lacroix darling, Lacroix“, in her best Edwina voice. We saw an adorable miniman jacket….for $175. It was all out of our price range. We did get a miniman twill plaid newsboy cap, like I said before Tadd is going to fashion Derby after himself.
We keep thinking how cute everything looks and the babies need it. THIS BUYING MADNESS HAS TO END.

Did you see all of the sock monkey stuff at Chicken Little!??!?!?!?! Is it a “theme” or are you just doing blankets? The buying HAS ONLY BEGUN…remember, you NEED that glider too….oh, and i do recommend the luna lulaby blankets for swadling–they’re nice and big and the muslin is great because even if they have “winter clothes”
(well, SB winter clothes) on, you can still swadle them and they won’t be too hot. Oh, and one more recommendation: if the twins don’t take to the breast for some reason, or if it’s too hard to do both of them (case in point: grant’s 3.5 weeks in the NICU getting the bottle)….i think Similac is a good choice. This pumping every 3 hours is getting to be ridiculous.

No, it’s not a theme, we just liked it and thought they would make cute blankets.

Loved the sock monkey fabric! Very cute! And hey, what’s wrong with those capris? I think I need a pair! And don’t worry about breastfeeding the twins, Hav, there is always the “football hold” (hold one in each had like a football and position accordingly). I remember seeing this before I had the boys thinking “how in the world . . . ” Anyway, if anyone can do it, you can Havie! I can’t wait to see your little mini-Tadd running around in his newsboy cap!
