Tadd and I actually went somewhere other than Bad Axe while in the Mitten State. For 3 days we went off on our own for a whirlwind adventure that included Mackinac Island (pronounced mac-ah-gnaw), Traverse City and a magical place that Tadd has talked so much about. That would be the U.P., and for those who are not in the know it stands for the Upper Peninsula. A place with cheap drinks, beautiful scenery and a culinary dish called pasties. I once tried to make said pasties and it took hours. Not to mention the recipe called for weird things like rutabaga and suet, like I said before I only tried once. Anyways after spending the night on Mackinac Island we drove over the Mackinaw Bridge, whos claim to fame used to be the longest suspension bridge in the world. After the thrilling 5 mile ride across the bridge (where I felt nauseous because I was hungry) we were in the U.P. Almost instantly we saw signs for pasties. Everyone and their mother seemed to have a little roadside store that sold pasties. But by far my favorite was the sign that read:
SMOKED FISH JERKY & FUDGE SHOPPE
The only thing that could have made the sign better is if it had the words “Ye Olde” on the beginning. Nothing helps with morning sickness better then a sign like that. I’m still kicking myself for not taking a picture.
(The pasties in the U.P. were awesome. I highly recommend them if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood)
